Outfit Of The Day (All Dressed Up, Nowhere To Go...)

Outfit Of The Day (All Dressed Up, Nowhere To Go...)

Outfit Of The Day (All Dressed Up, Nowhere To Go...)
Top: Forever 21 Cami, Express White Blazer
Skirt: J Crew Gold Mica Mini (aren't you getting sick of it? I'M NOT! Hee.)
Shoes: Bebe knockoffs of the Stella McCartney Mesh Basket Sandals
Necklaces: Forever 21, Target
Purse: Chanel Small Classic Flap ?

I am playing around here, mostly. I am freaking loving the the lariat style necklaces a la the Tracy Reese's Spring 2009 collection- I have a lot more, and you'll be seeing them a plenty on me this Fall with cardigans, blazers, and jackets. Booties have also been growing on me more and more- I typically only admire from afar and stay away (the last thing I need is something cutting my short legs up even more!) but I fell in love with the Stella McCartney's after seeing them on the ever-so-lovely Goldenmeans. Of course, I fell in love a few months late and the Stella's were no where to be found in my size, so I settled on the nearly-identical Bebe version (found off of Ebay) instead.

Honestly, I'm not quite sure how much I like them on me with skirts (again, short leg syndrome uggggh) but I will undoubtedly be pairing them with skinnies and leggings (yes TEH NEW SEXY) this Fall before the snow falls. ?

So okay, lovely readers- spill it! What's one fashion trend you were initially "iffy" on but have finally given into?

We've Added the Revamp Vintage Bridal Line to Our Shop!

por | | 0 comentarios

We've Added the Revamp Vintage Bridal Line to Our Shop! We are pleased to add the addition of the Revamp Vintage Bridal line to our online shop. Designer Annamarie von Firley, is a designer with a passion for collecting and wearing vintage clothing, received her first degree from Hampshire College with a Bachelor of Arts in Wooden Toy Design and Construction. She moved to San Francisco nearly seven years ago to earn her second degree from California College of Arts and Crafts and graduated with honors with a BFA in Furniture Design. She formerly was the Product Designer and Operations Manager for Grandiflorum Perfumes. Annamarie is also a professional dancer working with three local companies. In her spare time, Annamarie is an accomplished flying trapeze artist. A member of the Art Deco Society of California, Annamarie has amassed a growing collection of vintage clothing, catalogues, movies, music and art from 1890 to 1950.

We are highlighting the "Lillian" Gown. The bride of the 1940s had World War II to contend with. Rationing of fabric made simplicity in line and trimming an important factor to consider. A bride sometimes had no time to have a gown made before her fiancée was shipped off to war and had to make do with a suit or casual dress. The lucky bride had more time to consider her options. The most popular gown tended to be of rayon-satin worn in an unadorned A-line style. Although simplicity was key, wedding dresses were anything but boring. The A-line dress, also called the princess line, had a fitted bodice, a nipped in waist, and were usually fitted at the neckline, wrist, and midriff. with an A-line skirt. For those brides who wanted a little something different, over-dresses of sheer netting or lace would create a soft look. Moderate length veils were worn with decorative headdresses in a coronet style or a heart shaped style of fabric or lace, that would mimic a sweetheart neckline, a popular 40s motif. We've Added the Revamp Vintage Bridal Line to Our Shop!

“Lillian” is a stunning and accurate example of bridal wear from the early forties. This lovely dress is stitched in a buttery golden silk charmeuse with an overlay of caramel lace. The silk under-dress is princess-line, five-gore skirt fitted closely at the bodice and waist and is sleeveless with a sweetheart neckline. The overdress adds an air of modesty with a princess-line bodice, wrist-length leg-o-mutton sleeves that fasten with 4 loop and button closures, a high rounded neckline and fastens down the front of the dirndl skirt with 58 self-covered loop and button closures. The overdress made of carmel colored floral embroidered net adds a formal note appropriate for a church wedding.

And, if you are looking for a great Prom Dress, Cocktail Dress or Bridesmaid Dress ... Check out the Vivinne Dress. Gorgeous beyond words!

Title: Garden railway: 10 scale miles MASSIVE: Drivers Eye View of Bekonscot Model Railway

More info at Become a fan of us on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/bekonscot and http://www.bekonscot.co.uk The Gauge 1 model railway at Bekonscot Model Village, Bucks. It's a 10 scale mile model garden railway of 1/32 scale, in a 1/12 scale miniature village. The line was started circa 1929 and has been updated continuously for 80 years. We strapped a camera to the front of one of the engines and sent it off - we've added some subtitles so you can see what you're passing. Model railways rock. The huge model railway has evolved since those early years, from Bassett-Lowke LNER and GWR outline stock through to modern image British Rail - when at one time, class 47, class 37, Hymek, western class 53, intercity 125 and even DMU stock ran. In the early 1990s, interest in the railway's heritage regained, and it was decided to revert to a classic 1930s appearance. Therefore you'll now see classic GWR railmotors, EMU, GWR 94xx tank locos, LMS Jinty, SR Q Class and many more freelance locos on the route. The whole system is controlled by computer, interlocked with hundreds of relays for points and signal operation. Note that the signals are missing in this video, as they are currently all being refurbished. The complex trackwork around Maryloo station is controlled by a Westinghouse lever frame in the signal box (where this video begins and ends) when the signalman wants to intervene. This train was preset to run non-stop - but of course would need to stop if another train was in the block ahead of it. This video took four takes to get right - we had to be nimble with the manual signals to make sure no trains ahead of this one stopped progress, or made it wait on the single track sections! Usually there are 9 to 11 trains in operation at any one time; a selection of them are seen on this video. Perhaps we should get a Thomas The Tank Engine for the line...? We're in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire - which is on the Chiltern Railways route from London Marylebone to High Wycombe, Banbury and Birmingham. hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it! A Necklace a Day - Six

Peacock Bead Palette

Although I love putting together trios of beads every months for Bead Color Triads, I don’t often have the time to put them to good use. Sometimes the beads I use to make a palette come together are ‘reserved’ for something else - an idea for a project that may or may not be completed one distant day.

This month, I decided it was time show how a recent bead palette really would look in a finished piece. Luckily, October’s subject was peacock feathers, and the bead choices were awesome.

I mixed together two of the palettes, starting with some brown grooved rectangles, Capri blue crystals, and matte black magatamas. I added golden amber seed beads with a beautiful warm glow, and light aqua fire polish rounds to add a little bulk.

Groovy Peacock Necklace by The Sage's Cupboard

Groovy Peacock Necklace

These groovy rectangles have been waiting around a long time for me to get a little inspiration. I finally decided it was time to just use them, as is, and stop worrying about whether or not a better idea might suddenly jump out of the shadows. I strung them with a few crystals, then used my favorite quick stitch - reverse daisy chain - to make some straps and voila! A new necklace with lots of sparkle is done.

If you’re trying to tackle an overflowing bead stash, you’ve just got to jump in and do it. What kinds of beads are you holding onto for lack of inspiration?

Holiday Wrap Up

por | | 0 comentarios

Photos by me, textures by Kim Klassen

Guess who got stuck in a blizzard that dumped more than a foot of snow on the East Coast last weekend? That'd be me.

Luckily, I didn't have to sit at the airport for days on end. I got a few extra days at home with the kiddos, which we spent trying to build a wonky snowman (no, I didn't get a photo and I'm kicking myself for it), going to see Tangled, and having pajama day after pajama day. But I am so glad to be home.

I swear I'm not a grinch, but the holidays aren't really my favorite part of the year. It's always so busy and stressful that I come out the other side wishing for a vacation from my vacation. This year was even worse, as my sister's house is being renovated, so there were workers in the house right at 8am (seriously, you could set an alarm by these guys - they were prompt) before and after the holidays. So, there wasn't a lot of baking or decorating or sleeping in, and I missed that; I did get to spend lots of one-on-one time with my sister, though, which was awesome, and I made my first wreath (I'll share photos soon). Other than that, if you've never lived or dealt with a renovation, I can sum up the process in three words: dusty and noisy.

I tried to come home a few days early to relax, but then a blizzard came along and there went my plans. Oh, and I threw out my back doing I don't know what at the very beginning of my trip, so the holidays this year were literally painful for me. 90% of the photos I took are blurry because it hurt to lift the camera (oh, well), but I did get these shots. What they don't show are the 50mph winds and pelting snow. But it sure looked nice from inside!

My plans for New Year's Eve is to flop on the couch and do absolutely nothing but watch TV and eat junk food. How about you? How was everyone's Christmas?

The 52 Colors Project

por | | 0 comentarios

I think I'm probably 80% crazy. Because on top of everything else, I've decided I am going to do another 52 Weeks-style project.

I spent a good amount of time this week sitting in front of a blank blog post page, wondering what I'm supposed to write about (Monday was especially hard - I have no idea what to talk about on Mondays anymore). If anything else, I learned over the past year that I work best when I have a little bit of structure. Not the kind of structure that has crazy rules, but general guide lines where I could put my own spin on things - that's where I work best. Left to my own devices I tend to flounder around.

With that in mind, I was prompted and inspired by Alycia over at The Curious Pug, who has decided to take on Project 52, a weekly photo project (one photo taken by her per week). I'm going to take it one step further and assign colors, then go out (or stay in) and take photos of things in that color, arrangements that have the color, playing with textures, whatever strikes my fancy. At the end of the year, I'm going to have those photos printed and turned into a book.

I'm using this 52 Colors project to help me learn my camera, to get me to stop and savor a moment, and to start documenting my life regularly (and not just on vacation). I'm excited to start; the muse isn't speaking to me about jewelry right now, so maybe it, too, needs a break. Besides, isn't it funny that when you start playing with another medium, ideas start flowing? Here's hoping.

First official post up later today.

Title: Cricut Vinyl Project - Picture Frame

http://www.expressionsvinyl.com Cricut vinyl is an excellent product for decorating. It is also great for making gifts. In this project we are using a picture frame to make a decorative gift. The picture frame was purchased from a local craft store that offers 50% off coupons, so it was quite inexpensive. The idea behind this project is to apply vinyl lettering to the front of the glass and remove everything else behind the glass so that the color of your wall makes the background color of your picture, although you could also insert some decorative paper into the frame to achieve a different look. We made this particular project as a wedding gift and chose fonts and colors that we felt our friends would like. You can use any fonts and colors you would like. The lettering consists of two parts. The background is the family name and we have chosen black Cricut vinyl foe this part. For the foreground lettering we used a beige colored Cricut vinyl. When layering lettering on a sign like this you always want to choose colors that contrast with each other. If your colors are to close to each other they will just turn in to an illegible blob where they overlap. With your vinyl pieces cut, weeded, and transfer tape on you can begin to work on the placement of your elements. A neat trick on this project is to use the picture that came in the frame to determine your placement. To do this, remove the picture from the frame. Lay your background element on the picture and position it where you would like to see it on the glass. When you have it positioned make a mark around two of the corners diagonal from each other. Then lay the foreground layer of vinyl over the background layer and position it where you would like it to be. When positioned make the same type of marks at the corners of the foreground element. Now keep in mind this is all being done with the backing still on so your vinyl isnt sticking to anything yet. When you have your locations marked you will then put the picture back in the frame. You can now see your mark through the glass. Then you will take the background element of Cricut vinyl and remove the backing. Use the mark that you can see through the glass to position this element. Remove the transfer tape, and then repeat for the foreground element. When working with glass, make sure you keep your ready to stick vinyl as flat as possible and lightly stick down the aligning corners and the work it down flat. Be careful though, vinyl sticks to glass very well and you usually dont get a second chance. Now you have your vinyl attached to the glass, but we dont want all the stuff behind the glass. Remove this stuff and the glass. Put a small drop of hot glue in each corner of the frame and the set the glass in. If the frame has bendable tabs to hold the parts in you can also bend these over as a little extra insurance to keep the glass in. With this step completed your project is now done and ready to display.

Tip Share :: 5 Steps to a More Mindful Life

por | | 0 comentarios

I've touched on the idea that abundance is a matter of perspective before, but what comes next? Luckily, today's post, courtesy of Dannielle Cresp, shares concrete tips to answer that question.

If you don't know her, Dannielle hails from Australia, where she designs fabric based gifts and strives to create a handmade-friendly world through handmade gifts. Beyond that, she blogs on her website, DannielleCresp.com, and has written an e-book called Living Within Your Means. I'm over the moon that Dannielle's taken time out to share tips on how to live a more mindful life with us today.

Have you thought about "living within your means" and what it means to you? To me, it's about thinking before spending, and making sure I buy something that I will really love. By thinking about what I spend my hard-earned dollars on, I can enjoy the purchase much more. It also means no credit cards and only having debt that can't be avoided, like student loans and mortgages. That has let me put on the handbrake of overspending and ending up with purchases I'm luke-warm about.

So, how do we do that? Here are five steps to a more mindful life that you can start today:

  1. Budget for 'fun money' - If you like to buy yourself treats and new things, mindful living doesn't mean that you have to give them up; you just need to work out what you really have to spend and what you can buy within that budget.

  2. Save a little every payday - If you saved just 10% of your take home pay and put it in a savings account you'd be amazed how quickly it can grow into something significant.

  3. Take note how much you spend on the tiny purchases - It's the three coffees at the cafe everyday and the bought lunches that really catch up with you. Do yourself a favor and count up what you spend in a week on impulse purchases, it can really open your eyes.

  4. Think before you buy - If you're out shopping and you're not sure if you really need or want what you are considering buying, leave the shop. Go have a coffee or cold drink, sit and think about it, and only go back if it is something you really want.

  5. Dream big - Think about one of your ultimate financial goals, be it a nicely furnished house, a grand family holiday or a big trip overseas. If you make your dreams a priority and aim towards them you can focus your spending on giving you the life you really want.

Don't be too hard on yourself if it isn't easy to follow these steps right away or if you fall off the wagon. Dust yourself off, remember your goals for a happy, mindful life and just keep going. Life is too short to be angry at ourselves and to be stuck in a debt of things we never really wanted in the first place.

~Dannielle
