Sometimes the beads themselves are all the inspiration one needs, and nothing beats a great seed bead mix. Whether purchased or created, the chaotic look of mixed beads has definate appeal. They can be paired with a single contrasting or complimenting color for a bold statement, but these beads need to stand alone.
The Beads:
This bead mixture is made from multi-colored transparent iris seed beads, from Canadian Importer JohnBead. White and beige stand out among reds, blues and yellows, with a dash of purple, brown and green for good measure.
The Beadwork:
Presenting "Confetti Rope". A simple peyote stitch tube becomes a bright, cheerful necklace with these multi-colored seed beads. The necklace measures 22 inches (56 cm), and features a lucite bead clasp. With 12 beads in the base row, the peyote tube has an outside circumference of 1-1/4 inches. It can also be wrapped three times and worn as a wrist bangle.
Your Turn:
Use or create your own bead mixture and let it stand out in a unique piece of beadwork. Share your pictures and ideas on the Beading Challenges Forum.

Title: Proof the Bible/scriptures is the inspired word of God
Check these links out: To learn about Noah's ark, Sodom and Gomorrah, the Ark of the Covenant, the Red Sea crossing etc. with the discoveries from Ron Wyatt go to: http://www.arkdiscovery.com To check out a list of Messianic prophecies fulfilled by Yeshua HaMashiach/Jesus Christ go to: http://members.tripod.com/lastdayscalendar/messianic_prophecies.htm and http://www.jesus-is-lord.com/messiah.htm The anchor stones or drogue stones are an amazing find that goes along with Noah's ark. Some critics think that the ropes wouldn't hold those large stones. Well, yes they can. Ropes when put in a twisted way can hold a very large amount of weight. The holes for the ropes will fit massive ropes. Those who seek the truth shall find it! The evidence is here for the inspired Bible/scriptures of elohim/God. Those who claim "Bible objections" or Bible contradictions, are really just misunderstanding the Bible/scriptures. If you seek the truth and read the text in context, you will find answers. A good book to read on this subject is: "The New Evidence that Demands a Verdict" by Josh McDowell. Also a good book is, "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel Praise Yah for His truth and awesome discoveries in these end times! More points that the scriptures are inspired are: Job 38:14 talks about "springs of the sea." It wasn't until 1977 that scientists discovered that there were springs in the sea. Job 38:24 talks about, "By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?" This shows that light (heat from sun's rays) scatters or causes wind upon the earth. Today scientists know that when air is heated up it causes that hot air to rise, and the cold air to move in, causing wind! As a side note, in the video I mentioned under the Easter bunny etc. that it was mithraism sun-god worship. Actually, that was meant for the Dec. 25th sun-god worship festival. Easter is built around Ishtar fertility goddess worship rites. Obey the Lev. 23 eternal feast days instead! Like Passover, Unleavened Bread, Sukkot, etc. ****check out my 'white colored' video response below this for "the proof of prophecy." It shows incredible fulfilled prophecies in the Bible! I have a confession to make: I am having a difficult time gauging the suckiness of the current economy. I live in a fairly well-off area of the world, where high gas prices don't stop people from driving their Hummers and women have rocks on their wedding bands the size of small chihuahuas. I live in a place where the most commonly listed profession is DOCTOR/LAWYER/STAY AT HOME MOM! and a house built back in 1995 is considered old.
It's a hard life, really.
I feel like what I have seen in the media lately has, strangely enough, conflicted with what's been happening in this charming little town of mine. Sure, rumors have started to swirl about so-and-so's husband being laid off, spoken in the same hushed whispers one uses to speak of leprosy. I've never actually heard someone speak of leprosy, but you know- it's the same voice that I imagine they would use if they did. Two parts sympathy, one part slight disgust.
But honestly, for the most part, it's business as usual. Friends are already asking us to buy tickets to expensive holiday concerts; co-workers are talking about the new iPod/iPhone/iWhatever they're buying their kids for Christmas.
So I've decided that I have a new way of monitoring the current state of the economy.
Is it the stock market? Nah. Is it the newscasters on TV screaming about foreclosures? Nope. Is it the stories of gloom and doom in the newspapers? Nuh uh.
It's plastic surgery. Yes, good old plastic surgery. I have been monitoring the current activity amongst my peers and their plastic surgeons. It is a time of economic crisis, right? We are supposed to be looking for ways to be frugal and save money, right?
Like, you know- maybe we should cut back on the Botox to save some money. I mean...food on the table or Restylane injections: it's a very tough choice.
But apparently it is a tough choice. Someone I know managed to say (in the very same breath) that she was, "cutting back like everyone else and trying to work more to help with child care costs" but she also had an appointment for a boob job next week and she was so excited.
Hooray! Things must be fine if we can still afford new boobs.
Right?
Right.
So whew. I was beginning to worry there for a moment. Not anymore. You can suck it, Mr. Bernanke- something must still be right in this world. We can still afford new boobs.

Title: 5 Minute Tone Body Legs Workout, Fitness Training w/ Tammy
This Spring/Summer 2010 collection is inspired by the designers Swedish grandmother, Hilda, who was eccentric but full of grace. You'll see references to the styles of the 60s and even the 20s, but paired with comfortable chic sandals. This is a season of gentle color contrasts, soft skin tones and cool blues next to shades of neutrals.
As soon as the temperatures begin to creep anywhere near the 60 degree mark, I'm in sandals. Heck, give me a 45-degree day (and no snow on the ground) and I'm probably in sandals. I love sandals almost as much as I love dresses; the fact that I must confine my tootsies in boots and shoes throughout the winter thoroughly depresses me.
(I originally typed "toesies" and my Firefox spellchecker asked me if I meant tootsies. Why yes, yes I did Firefox! Thank you for keeping me refreshed on my cutesy vocabulary; thanks for making me sound like I'm a little old lady that belongs in New Joisey.)
But back to the sandal thing here. It really does depress me- the Sad Sandal Stupid Snow Syndrome (I shall call it) typically strikes in the middle of January. It's around that time of year I always find myself in my closet waving my arms around while proclaiming, "I WANT THIS SNOW TO GO AWAAAAY. I WANT TO MOOOOOVE. I WANT TO MOVE SOME PLACE WHERE I CAN WEAR SANDALS YEAR ROUND AND IT'S WAAAARM. I AM GOING TO PACK UP PETUNIA AND LEAVE YOU, HUSBAND OF MINE, I'M GETTING AN APARTMENT IN ARIZONA AND YOU CAN COME VISIT ME 'KAYTHANKSBYE."
I typically even haul out a few empty suitcases to emphasize my point, yell-talking and waving my arms around while piling sandals and shorts in the suitcases (with Petunia on top ignoring the whole production while chewing on whatever clothing tag she finds to fit into her mouth). Husband watches on, smirking to himself as I carry on ranting in my madness. He always rolls his eyes and nervously ignores me (or promptly schedules a trip to somewhere warm, like Vegas or...Arizona!) so I kind of get my way. But only kind of- we always return to the wintery city within a week and I'm back to being sad, itching for the warm weather and my sandals.
So! No summer is complete without sandals (and lots of them) and this year I am loving what I shall refer to as "Balmain-Inspired Studded Strappy Sandals". I have no idea if that's what the fashion world is calling these, but that is what I've decided tocall them. Hang on here, and you will see what I mean.
For my expensive category I chose none other than the Balmain beauties themselves. They first made their appearance on the Balmain Spring 2009 Runway. I, however, didn't notice them until I saw this picture of Jennifer Connelly in a Balmain straight-off-the-runway-get-up at a premiere for He's Just Not That Into You. Holy moly. I can leave the dress (the shoulder pads freak me out and isn't this dress from the Spring 2009 RTW collection much prettier?) but those sandals. THOSE SANDALS. If I had $2,000 to drop on something completely self-indulgent and over-the-top and obscene this year, those sandals would be it. I don't (damn you sucky economy!) but lucky for me, "Balmain-Inspired" sandals are popping up everywhere. Hooray.
Both Zara and Bebe did a near exact replication of the Balmain Studded Crystal sandals, which I could have easily featured for my "middle" choice. However, I don't have a Zara anywhere near me and the Bebe ones are completely sold out (and going for almost $300, which is double their selling price, on any auction site). ALDO also does a knock-off, but I find ALDO shoes to be uncomfortable and poorly-fitting on my feet. So I decided to feature these Steve Madden wedges instead. They aren't exactly the same, but the concept is there- the chunky, studded, blingy straps swath your feet in total badassness. And that is what I like so much about this concept- the edginess of the design actually makes your feet look prettier- dainty, even, in comparison to the straps and studs. Wedges are easy to walk in and even easier on the feet, which makes them my sandal of choice for the summer. You get the best of both worlds with the Steve Madden Quikk sandals.
Looking to get the same look but not break the bank? Go Jane is great for this. They have also jumped on the "Balmain Inspired" trend and for $15.70 you can get these awesome little heels. The heel is a very easy-to-walk-in 3-inches (well, easy-t0-walk-in-for-me, I probably shouldn't make this bold statement for others because I am sure my 76-year old gramma would not find them so easy-to-walk-in. Neither would my Husband. I'll shut up now). The only downfall is the lack of cushioning. While they are lightly padded on the bottom, I would recommend getting some foot petals to place near the ball of the feet if you're planning to do any heavy walking in them. I actually have these sandals and love them, and after buying foot petals they're still only around $20. You can't afford not to get them. Srsly.
These flat sandals are also another inspired version (that I also own!). They're comfy and look great with both jeans and dresses. They're also available in black, but I liked the gold version better for these. I wouldn't walk for miles in them (they're not that comfy!) but they are comfortable enough to wear around on lazy summer days and not be limping by the end of it. And again, for under $20- you can't afford not to get them! Isn't it annoying when people say that to you? It's like the ultimate in "I Don't Know What Else To Say To Pitch a Sale For These So I'm Going to Tell You They're Cheap And You're a Complete Idiot Not Smart Person If You Don't Buy Them".
But it's true. They're cheap, and you're a complete idiot not smart person if you don't buy them. So there.
5. And then there is me:
In the Go Jane sandals and the Candies sandals, of course.
Not counting my Tory Burch Breely flip flops (and the J. Crew sandals I always get suckered into buying every year) I simply don't see the point in dropping a pretty penny on sandals. When it comes to sandals and the summertime, I like to completely go for quantity over quality. Er, um, I mean....I like quality (I'm not going to tell you guys to run out and buy something that's going to fall apart after 5 minutes of wearing it) but places like Target, Kohl's, Old Navy, and even Go Jane have great sandals at an even greater price. Go! Run! Buy!
So how about you guys? Love the Balmain-inspired studded trend? Hate the Balmain-inspired studded trend? What sandals are you coveting this summer?

One of the things that I love about Revolve Clothing (aside from the fact that they hand out coupon codes like they're candy) is their awesome customer service. Revolve not only ships for free but it's fast-my purchases from Monday arrived today. Holy freaking fast, batman.
It is a very pretty bag, although its size initially took me by surprise. It's much bigger than I expected. I suppose it would have helped if I had paid attention to the measurements listed on the website- I regrettably did not. I just have one thing to say: if this is the Jet-Setter Jr., then I don't want to meet the Jet-Setter Sr.
Har har har, I am slapping my knee.
Petunia is in the bag for scaling purposes only. So I can show you, my dear readers, what a 4-lb. chihuahua looks like in such a big bag. No chihuahuas were hurt during this photo shoot. Her ego may be a bit bruised, but no actual physical pain was inflicted when sticking the chihuahua into the bag.
I do like the bag in spite of its largeness. As much as I would rather have a small satchel, big bags are great for carrying lots of stuff. And I have lots of stuff to carry. Petunia was actually sitting on a hooded sweatshirt and two big cans of hairspray that I had placed in the bottom of the bag. See?
Which is a sheer little blouse, adorned with pretty ruffles and buttons and ribbons to tie the waist in. I'm typically not a fan of shapeless tops, but this top has just the right amount of shapelessness to it. I love it. I paired it with a pair of ON skinnies and my Frye boots. Oh, and that ridiculously large Jet Setter Jr. bag. Why not.
I also received my Sephora order today, and in it was this nice little surprise:
One thing I like about Sephora is their little samples and deluxe samples. They make me happy, and more than once I've tried a sample and actually ran back to purchase whatever item I sampled. I'm a sucker for their genius marketing. So with that said, I'll be sad if the rumor holds true next month that their annual friends & family (20% off storewide discount!) is going to only be friends & family. There's a nasty little rumor floating around on the internet that it will be a one-time use code, obtained only by seeing a sales associate. Sephora, don't do this to me. Don't make me hate you, not when I love you so much.

Getting to know artists, as well as discovering their work, is endlessly fascinating to me. With that in mind, I started the 10 Things About series to give a quick snapshot of the artists behind the art! I hope you enjoy.
One of the most important stitches that any beadweaver will learn is the versatile and endlessly useful peyote stitch. Also called gourd stitch, the seemingly simple pick-up-one-skip-one pattern can be one of the most frustrating to master. Although the basic concept is easy enough to understand, finding the right tension and making the beads go where they should takes a lot of practice.
For first time bead weavers, I always recommend the two-bead version, or two-drop peyote stitch, which follows the exact same pick-up-stitch pattern, but is much easier to handle. By using two beads per stitch instead of one, the beadwork is less likely to curve, sway and twist. You can also create wider pieces of flat beadwork much quicker with two-drop peyote, because you're picking more beads per stitch.
To make a wide cuff bracelet: Select one or more colors of 11/o seed beads, and about 2 yards of thread suitable for beading, such as Nymo or Fireline. Thread a beading needle, and pick up one seed bead. Slide it down until there is about an 8 inch tail, and stitch back up through the bead to form a stopper.
Pick up any number of seed beads divisible by 4 - but not so many that stitching will be difficult. 24 beads is a great number for a basic cuff bracelet. Slide the beads down to the stopper, and turn the beadwork so that the stop-bead is at the top.
Pick up 2 seed beads and slide them over the needle, but do not push them down to the main beadwork. Grasp the bottom 4 seed beads from the original 24 with your left thumb and forefinger, making sure that the entire strand is snug against the stopper. With the needle in your right hand, skip the first two beads, and stitch up through the 3rd and 4th seed bead. Pull the thread gently until the new beads are secure against the beadwork.
You should now have a little square of 4 seed beads at the bottom of the beadwork. This completes the first stitch. Pick up 2 more seed beads, and perform another peyote stitch: Grasp the beadwork firmly, and skip the next two beads in the strand, stitching up through the following two. Gently pull the thread tight, and make sure the new beads are snug.
Continue adding seed beads two at a time until your thread exits the top of the bead strand - do not stitch through the stop-bead. Turn the beadwork over again, so that the stop-bead is at the bottom, and the first row of beads is to your left.
Pick up 2 seed beads, and stitch up through the two raised beads in the previous row. Pull the thread tight. Continue adding beads in this manner, flipping the beadwork to start each new row.
To add new thread, remove the needle when there is about 4 inches of thread remaining at the end of a row. Attach a stop bead to a new length of thread, and stitch into the beadwork at least 6 beads down from your last stitch. Exit from the same beads as your previous thread. Weave the old thread into the beadwork and trim. Pick up the new thread, and continue stitching as before.
When the beadwork is the desired length, complete the last row, making sure that your working thread is exiting from the opposite side as the original stop bead, so that the rows are even. Use the remaining thread, and the original tail, to attach each half of a clasp.
If desired, you can use your favorite fringe technique to embellish the top and bottom edge of the cuff, which will help protect the threads. My Monster Mash cuff has straight fringe using 2-5 seed beads at random.
Give it a try! Two-drop peyote is a great introduction to basic flat beadweaving, and is perfect for one of a kind bracelets!
