Get Bettie Page Hair Easy .. Try the Hairfree brush!

Bettie Page Pop Art, Colors Art Print Poster - 24x36When one thinks of the "classic pinup" few names come to mind faster than Bettie Page. A raven haired beauty and icon of the 50s, she was best known for her trademark hairstyle, bangs, blue eyes and uninhibited relationship with the camera. Bettie's hairstyle is one that women are emulating. Want the look? Here is how:

  • Be prepared to color your hair for the full "Bettie homage" look; unless your hair is already dark brown or black. Of course you can still the "the style" without dying your hair but it wouldn't be the Bettie Page look without going dark.

  • Have your bangs cut short. The bangs should be equal length across the entire forehead. The bangs need only be long enough to work with rollers or a curling iron.

  • Keep the hair (except the bangs) long, coming past the shoulders at least.

  • Tame the hair into big, soft curls. If your hair is naturally curly, try a relaxing product. Blow dry the hair with a diffuser and a round brush to achieve the big curls. If you have naturally straight hair, set it with big rollers for a few hours. Set the curls with a lightweight hairspray, as the look should appear soft and natural.

  • Use a large curling iron to tame the bangs. They should come straight down but be curled under just enough to add a little bounce and volume. Set with some hairspray.

  • And for the "pinup look" spice it up with a large flower on the side of your head for special occasions.

Bettie Page 12-Month 2011 Wall Calendar - 12x12If you frequently have to use high heat flat iron / curling irons on your hair, they will eventually damage your hair! Flat irons often heat up to over 400 degrees. Anything you can do to avoid that much heat on your hair is a good thing. I came across a very nice alternative called hairfreé™ self-cleaning hairbrushes. A cool line Get Bettie Page Hair Easy .. Try the Hairfree brush!of brushes that are beyond unique. With the slide of a button, this gadget hair brush pushes all the hair out of it, making it cleaner and easier than a traditional hairbrush. Another cool feature of these brushes is that you can convert each one to a vent brush by adjusting a knob. With a vent brush, you can speed up the blow drying process.  Another big plus ... these brushes can pretty much replace your flat iron and curling iron.

The hairfreé® brushes use the latest in ceramic technology to produce straight, soft, manageable results, performing just as well as the traditional round brush. Some of the benefits associated with Ceramic technology include:

  • Creating a smooth and polished effect with added natural shine.

  • Aids against static build-up.

  • Whilst drying the hair the heat is equally distributed for fast and effective styling.

  • Hair straightening or curling.
You can order hairfreé™ brushes online for $15.95 for the round brush and $9.95 for the flat brush. They have an email address and phone number on the contact page of their website, hairfree.bz. If you are a salon owner, they also sell in bulk.

Wednesday Wants (Etsy Love)

por | | 0 comentarios

Is Etsy not the best thing ever? It is, it is it is it is. Husband would argue that it isn't (bacon, football, Slurpees, and cherry pie rank far higher to him) but to someone like me who is always searching for something a bit different, Etsy reigns supreme. Even above a Coca Cola Slurpee. And bacon! Gasssp, I know.

A simple search of "Pearl Flower Necklace" on Etsy this past Monday night led me straight to these beautiful pieces:

Wednesday Wants (Etsy Love)
Origami Flower Statement Necklace by DolorisPetunia - $50

Wednesday Wants (Etsy Love)
Arden Necklace by RachelD - $32

Wednesday Wants (Etsy Love)
Romance and Roses Pearl Necklace by Lulucoco - $32

Wednesday Wants (Etsy Love)
The Carrie Necklace in Sea Goddess by Erinkeys - $25

Wednesday Wants (Etsy Love)
The Sage Blossom Necklace by PenelliBelle - $102

Wednesday Wants (Etsy Love)
Maddison Ivory Necklace and Earring Set by AmberSky - $57

And now here I sit, lusting after every single one of them. I ordered one of the necklaces above for myself; you will just have to wait and see what it is, darlings. I will feature it as soon as it arrives.

And in more happy news, a previous "Wednesday Want" of mine finally shipped from Anthro on Monday. It had been backordered in my size until September 15th but (ohthankgod) shipped early. I CAN'T WAIT. I really can't. I mean it. It is killing me. I'm pretty sure Roxy and Kim can't wait either- just so I stop nagging (and begging) (and okay- outright demanding while contemplating to pay them off with candy corn) (it's all I have!) that they should find it in one of their local stores and try it on for me. I've yet to see the boucle cape in person and no one in Blogland has reviewed it yet, so I am dying. Dying!

I hope the cape is as awesome as it looks, because I totally need a cape for as feeble as I feel. It will make me feel 100% better, I am sure of it. Then I can wear my cape and I can be all, "DON'T FUCK WITH ME LUPUS, 'CUZ I HAVE A CAPE. NO, THIS ISN'T A PONCHO, LUPUS. IT'S A CAPE. A CAPE IS DIFFERENT THAN A PONCHO. WHY? BECAUSE IT ISN'T A PONCHO, IT'S A CAPE- THAT'S WHY. SUPER HEROES DON'T WEAR PONCHOS. BATMAN DIDN'T FLING HIS PRETTY PLAID PONCHO OVER HIS SHOULDER TO FLY AWAY, OH NO. BATMAN WORE A BAD ASS MOTHERFREAKING CAPE AND THIS IS A CAPE AND well, I suppose Robin could have worn a poncho, he always was a little ga- ohmygod shut up and stop calling it a poncho now you're just doing that to annoy me."

(You must understand, readers- Lupus is very good at annoying. Too good, sometimes.)

And then I will be the ultimate badass, readers, the ultimate badass-that-is-afraid-of-spiders-and-old-people-and-Angelina-Jolie but clad in a nice, creamy, boucle wool cape. And I will work on my superhero ninja moves (and maybe eat some more candy corn) and Lupus won't dare mess with me then! Ha HA!

Oh, this is so exciting! Yay and stay tuned. ?

Savvy Vintage Shopping by the Pros

por | | 0 comentarios

Ran across this info and thought I would pass it along. Since not everyone knows what they are buying ... if you are buying true Vintage clothes here are some tips to make sure your purchase is worth the $$$$$:

  • Fur: Check that the hairs are firmly attached to the pelts hide and that there is no molting or flaking on the surface;

  • Lingerie - Check for stains (i.e., coffee, lipstick, etc.) that cannot be removed. If the color is off -- you can always die it another color

  • Clothes - Pieces from the sixties or earlier usually contain extra fabric in the sames which allows you let your garments out (YAHOO!)

  • You can change a dress neckline or length to make it look more current.

  • Remember that if there are 3 things that need to be fixed, you are better off finding something similar that requires less work.

  • If buying online rquest photo's of the item's label, inside seam and if a purse the hardware and corners.

If buying new ... it's not hard to find some great deals on the net. Retro is "in" right now. From high end to low ... you can find the styles. Check out Yoox.com (they carry alot of designer clothes and one of a kind jewelry); Alloy (for thinner wallets); Coast (I'm lovin' Coast -- they have fabulous dresses) and Manhattanite, jut to name a few.

Title: Vintage David Letterman (1987) - Brazilian Coffee House 2 of 3

Late Night with David Letterman late 1987. Letterman does his Top Ten list, "What's Hal Wearing" and the Late Night Thrill-Cam. On part 2 he orders out to a Brazilian Coffee House for some flan. Part 3 is very funny, he has a lady on with her two monkeys. One of the monkeys does not care very much for Letterman and keeps trying to attack him. In parts 2 and 3 there's some 1987 commercials, one of them has Joe Piscopo doing a Miller Light Beer commercial. Late Night with David Letterman was a nightly hour-long comedy talk show on NBC hosted by David Letterman. It premiered in 1982 and went off the air in 1993, after Letterman left NBC and moved to the Late Show on CBS. Late Night with Conan O'Brien then filled the time slot. In 1991, the show's three production companies — Carson Productions, Worldwide Pants, and NBC Productions — were awarded a Peabody Award, which cited the following: In the past ten years, one show has moved to the position of the leader in late night television in creativity, humor, and innovation. That program is Late Night With David Letterman. As one member of the Peabody Board remarked, "David Letterman is a born broadcaster." He is also a savvy co-executive producer. Along with co-executive producer Jack Rollins, producer Robert Morton, director Hal Gurnee, and musical director Paul Shaffer, Mr. Letterman has surrounded himself with exceptional talent and given them the go-ahead to experiment with the television medium. Particularly noteworthy is the work of head writer Steve O'Donnell and his talented staff. Together, the "Late Night" team manages to take one of TV's most conventional and least inventive forms — the talk show — and infuse it with freshness and imagination. For television programming which, at its best, is evocative of the greats, from Your Show of Shows, to The Steve Allen Show, and The Ernie Kovacs Show, a Peabody to Late Night With David Letterman. The program ran four nights a week, Monday to Thursday, from the show's premiere in February 1982 until May 1987 from 12:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Friday shows were added in June 1987 (NBC previously, aired Friday Night Videos in the 12:30 a.m. slot with occasional Late Night specials and reruns). Starting in September 1991, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson was pushed back from 11:30 p.m. to 11:35 p.m., with Letterman starting at 12:35 a.m., at the request of NBC affiliates who wanted more advertising time for their profitable late newscasts (though Letterman had a different reason for the delay: "With the extra five minutes, I will make certain that my make-up is absolutely perfect!").

The Power of Handmade and Ring Seventeen

por | | 0 comentarios
One of my favorite things about being in Etsy seller is knowing that I’m part of a community that is making changes to the world. Just by providing local goods that are not mass-produced, handmade artists are changing the way that we consume. Many artists are also making a difference by up-cycling and reusing materials that might otherwise be thrown out. Still others are setting an example by using sustainable materials, or reducing the amount of waste that their business produces.

Help the Gulf Coast Raises Funds for Oxfam
Some very dedicated Etsy sellers take this challenge to the next level, by offering their time to raise funds for important causes. When I learned about the shops fundraising for the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster, I decided it was about time I got involved, too.

So, today’s ring was created especially for Help the Gulf Coast - a collective Etsy shop run by a handful of dedicated Etsians. 100% of the net profits from this shop go to charities that support communities affected by the disaster, including Oxfam.

This organization is already well known for it’s humanitarian efforts. They have been assisting low income families in the Gulf area since the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Now their focus has had to shift, as the continuing oil damages change the lives of everyone in the area. Oxfam is now working with communities to assess the environmental and economic damages, while still working towards safety measures for the arrival of the next hurricane season.

Baby Fish Blues Ring
Ring # 17 - Baby Fish Blues
With my Ring a Day project well under way, I had every reason to create a brand new design to donate to the cause. I thought an aquatic theme would be appropriate for this piece, so naturally I went with a starfish ring. The first beads I chose where abalone blue lined crystal. I did the starfish in coral pink, and added some frosted magatamas for accents.

The color combination is pretty, but also meaningful. This ring is my own tribute to the innocent creatures affected by all that we humans do. Red and pink coral, abalone, whales, salmon and sea birds are just a few of the animals that are being threatened by our activities. They are constantly bombarded by pollution, habitat destruction, and of course, human consumption. It’s a cruel irony that only we can help them from our own wrongdoings.

If you’re any Etsy seller, you too can donate a listing to the cause. Visit the Help the Gulf Coast blog to learn more about how to donate, or to see the latest fundraiser stats. If you can’t donate, many beautiful new items are added to the shop everyday. Even the tiniest purchase can help!
